Thank you for your recent email to Encyclopedia.com regarding possible errors

in the "Korea, History" article in the online encyclopedia.

Your email was forwarded to Columbia University Press because the Encyclopedia.com encyclopedia is based on our Columbia Encyclopedia, 6th Edition.

While we will pass your concerns along to the encyclopedia's editorial board for consideration in our on-going revision efforts, we stand by the accuracy of the article.

To address your specific concerns:

1. Our article discusses the "documented history" of Korea as starting with the Three Kingdoms, which is the general consensus of scholarly opinion; we will, however, consider adding mention of Gojoseon (Ko Choson) where we mention the Tungusic tribal peoples.

2. You date the founding of Gojoseon/Ko Choson to 2333 BC, however all sources we have indicate that this is not documented, but more mythical. Indeed, even information provided by the Korean Embassy indicates this.

3. You claim we "shorten" the period of the Three Kingdoms, but we do not actually cite any period at all in the article, but provide approximate dates when the separate kingdoms began flourishing.
