해가 거듭할수록 특수목적고의 입시 경향이 크게 바뀌고 있다. 2008년도 서울 지역의 특목고 입시 요강이 최근 발표되었는데 가장 큰 변화는 수학과 과학이 출제되지 않는다는 것이다. 경기 지역의 외국어고도 서울과 마찬가지로 계산을 필요로 하는 수학과 과학 문제를 출제하지 않기 때문에 수리적성검사 형식이 아닌 창의사고력 위주의 문제가 출제될 것으로 전망된다.

지금까지는 교과서의 내용에 충실하거나 고등학교의 수학을 선행하여 조금 더 학습하면 특목고에 입문할 수 있었다. 하지만 이제는 교육 과정에 얽매이지 않는 종합적인 사고력 문제로 특목고 입시에 대비해야 한다.

그 중에서도 학부모나 학생들이 많이 당황하는 것은 구술 면접이나 적성 검사가 영어로 출제되고 있다는 사실이다. 지금까지 공부해 오던 수학과는 다른 접근이 요구될 뿐 아니라 그것을 영어로 묻고 있다는 것은 특목고를 준비하는 학생들에게 큰 충격이 아닐 수 없다.

최근 대원외고에서는 구술 면접의 수리 문제를 영어 지문으로 제시하였다. 수학 따로, 영어 따로 준비해 오던 학생들에게는 상당히 당황할 수 있는 일이지만 두 과목이 충분히 학습되었다면 쉽게 해결할 수 있는 일이다.

앞으로는 직접적인 수학 문제가 아닌 실생활에 관련되거나 국어나 경제, 영어와 접목한 통합형 문제가 다수 출제될 것으로 예상된다. 특목고를 준비하는 학생이라면 다양한 과목을 통합적으로 공부하는 자세가 필요하다.

★ Jamie and Josh are playing tic-tac-toe. Jamie agrees to give Josh three pieces of candy for each game that Jamie loses, and Josh agrees to give Jamie four pieces of candy for each game that Josh loses. After playing fifty-six games, Jamie has the same amount of candy that she started with. If no ties have occurred, how many games has Jamie won?

Jamie를 기준으로 Jamie가 Josh를 이겼을 때는 4개의 사탕을 얻고, Josh에게 졌을 때는 3개의 사탕을 줘야 합니다. 그런데 주어진 조건에서 둘이서 56게임을 한 후에 Jamie가 가진 사탕의 개수가 변하지 않았고 Jamie가 이긴 횟수를 a회라고 할 때, 비기는 것이 없으므로 진 횟수는 (56-a)회가 됩니다.

② 계획 실행하기

이를 식으로 나타내면 다음과 같습니다.

4a=3(56―a)

4a―3(56―a)=0

7a―168=0

∴ a=24(회)

따라서, Jamie가 Josh를 이긴 횟수는 모두 24회입니다.
