New addresses on Dokdo

The Public Administration and Security Ministry held a ceremony Wednesday in cooperation with North Gyeongsang Province and Ulleung County to introduce new addresses for Korea’s easternmost islets of Dokdo. Public Administration and Security Minister Maeng Hyung-kyu places a sign reading “Dokdo Isabu Road” at the eastern part of the island. The western part was named “Dokdo Ahn Yongbok Road.” Isabu was a 6th century general of the Shilla Kingdom who conquered what is now Dokdo. Ahn was a Joseon Dynasty fisherman known for getting Japan to acknowledge that Dokdo belonged to Korea.
