LG Insure warned to make a strong impact this season with the “Lee Kyung-soo effect” on its back.

The Kumho Life Cup 2003 Korea Business Volleyball Festival was held at Donghae Gymnasium on October 21. LG Insure, who boycotted last year’s for a scouting sensation of Lee Kyung-soo, displayed its strength by topping a powerful Hyundai Capital with a set score 3-0, even with injured Lee Kyung-soo sitting on the bench in its return match two years to this day.

The biggest focus was whether or not Lee Kyung-soo would participate in the game. Lee Kyung-soo, who hurt his back in a practice game just before the Chon-ju National Sports Festival opened, warmed up with his teammates before the match but eventually didn’t start the game.

However, the power of LG Insure was strong enough without his presence. The left and right attack by Son Suk-bum and Kim Sung-Chae respectively was overwhelming, and a center attack was active again, showing a noticeable change in the team’s ability.

LG Insure, making an easy start with a set score 25-21 with help from veteran player Kim Sung-chae (seven points) in the first set, lead 2-0 with a score 25-20 in the second set in which right attacker Son Suk-bum dominated with eight points.

Hyundai Capital substituted a tall player, Baek Sung-heon, for left attacker Jang Young-ki, who had made frequent errors, and drove the score back to 16-13 in the third set.

Hyundai allowed a power spike by Son Suk-bum and a block by Lee Yong-hee in successive serves, and the score was tied at 16-16. LG Insure escaped from the chase of Hyundai Capital with a set score 25-21 thanks to the actions of Lee Dong-hoon as well as of Son Suk-bum and Kim Sung-chae.

Roh Jin-soo, the manager of LG Insure said, “Lee Kyung-soo is now exhausted because he has played in Daegu Universidad, Asia Challenge Cup, National Sports Festival, all in a row. I won’t make him play unreasonably.”
