Lee Jung-jae and Oh Yeong-su of the Netflix drama series “Squid Game” have been nominated for the U.S. Golden Globes Awards. Korean movies “Parasite” and “Minari” had been nominated and won the Best Foreign Language Film in the Gold Globes Awards, but it is the first time for Korean drama and actors to be nominated for the award.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the list of nominees for the 79th Golden Globes on Monday (local time), which included “Squid Game” as the Best Television Series. The drama series will be competing with “Lupin” (Netflix), “The Morning Show” (Apple TV+), “Pose” (FX), and “Succession” (HBO). Five actors were nominated as Best Actor for TV series, including Lee Jung-jae who played Ki-hoon in “Squid Game.” Oh Yeong-su, who played Il-nam in the series, was named among the five actors nominated for Best Support Actor. In all, “Squid Game” earned three Golden Globes nominations.

“Squid Game” is based on a story of people that risk their lives to win prize money of 45.6 billion won. It topped Netflix’s most viewed list for 46 consecutive days from September 23. The 79th Golden Globes Awards will be held on January 9 next year.
