“No labor union history” of Samsung Group has been broken. Four employees working at the Bundang branch of Samsung Plaza run by Samsung Corporation applied for their union membership on September 3rd and were given a legal permission on the 5th.

The four workers plan to inform the company of their intention and demand the executives to make a labor contract with them by this October. They will also try to increase their membership by attracting the rest 450 employees.

The labor union of Samsung Plaza had tendered its application for labor unionship on September 1st, but it was rejected on the ground of their positions as accountants. The union could be made by reapplying on the 3rd, though.

The city government said, “After reviewing legal property of their qualification for the unionship, we could approve their rights.”

The Samsung Plaza labor union is the only labor union of the whole Samsung Group organization and comes under the Textile Distribution Unit of Korean Federation of Labor Union.

So far, other Samsung affiliates such as Shilla Hotel have been attempting to make up their own labor unions to no avail.
