Transition Committee Holds First Workshop

Posted December. 31, 2007 05:29,

“The former administration, with its historic left-wing revisionist view, appraises the history of the Republic of Korea as a history of shame. In the 2008 New Development Regime, the history of the ROK should be defined as that of development,” said committeeman Park Hyung-jun in the Division of Planning and Coordination, the first presenter to speak at the first workshop of the Transition Committee held in the conference hall of Presidential Transition Committee, Samcheong-dong, Jongro-gu, Seoul, December 29. Explaining the 2008 New Development Regime pursued by President-elect Lee Myung-bak, he emphasized sharing historic recognition as the first priority.

Sharing Recognition on the History of Development-

“The Roh Moo-hyun administration set forth a revisionist philosophy on past affairs such as the interpretation of the Korean War. To renovate the identity of the Republic of Korea, it is necessary to share the recognition that acknowledges the course of the Establishment of ROK-Industrialization-Democratization as the history of development,” continued committeeman Park. “The intent of the Lee Myung-bak administration is to positively inherit the historic energy of the 1948 establishment regime, 1963 industrialization regime, and the 1987 democratization regime, and to transform the ROK into a global leading nation as the starting point of the 2008 Modernization regime.”

The director Sa Kong-il of the National Competitiveness Council and manager Choi Gyeong-hwan of the first economic division expressed their consenting views on Park’s historic recognition, and nobody raised any disagreements. Vice chief of the Transition Committee Kim Hyong-oh asked for a manifest clearance of historic recognition, saying, “More improvement needs to be made on the historic recognition of such issues as democracy, liberty, and responsibility.”

As the framework for the 2008 New Development Regime neared modernization, committeeman Park mentioned: the modernization of economy and the quality of life; the conversion of the development model from government-led development to private-oriented development; and a system where the benefit of development is shared by the middle class and low-income families.
