Roh Begins Overseas Tour in Greece

President Roh Moo-hyun set off on a round of overseas visits and arrived at his first stopover in Athens, Greece on September 3. On his arrival, he paid respects to a memorial commemorating the soldiers who participated in the Korean War

On September 4, President Roh is scheduled to hold a summit with Greek President Karolos Papoulias to discuss ways to improve marine transportation, shipbuilding and harbor related issues.

Following this, President Roh will make state visits to Romania (September 5-7) and Finland (September 7-9), and then attend the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) taking place in Helsinki, Finland from September 10-11 in which he will make a speech at the opening ceremony.

President Roh will then move on to Washington D.C. on September 14 and meet with President George W. Bush at the White House for a Korea-U.S. summit meeting, which is expected to concentrate on diplomacy and security issues such as wartime operational control transfer and resumption of the six-party talks to resolve North Korean nuclear issues.

President Roh will also to stop by in San Francisco for discussions with opinion leaders in the western U.S. and return to Korea on September 16.
