Roh Leaves for ASEAN Summit

President Roh Moo-hyun will leave the country on December 8 for state visits to Malaysia (December 8 to 10) and the Philippines (December 14 to 16), and to participate in the ninth Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN)+3 (Korea, China and Japan) Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Man-soo on Friday.

At the summit, held from December 12 to 14, Roh plans to discuss major issues such as cooperation for co-prosperity in East Asia, measures to bring about an East Asian community, and the prevention of transnational crime.

The president is also scheduled to explain to the national leaders of other countries the Korean government’s efforts toward and achievements in peacefully resolving the North Korean nuclear issue, and to ask for steady support from the member nations.

No Korea-Japan meeting on the sidelines of the summit is scheduled.
