“Songpyeon” in Arbil

On Chuseok, September 28, the Zaitoon Unit soldiers, who were dispatched to Iraq, made calls home to their families and relatives from their post in Arbil. That day, the Zaitoon Unit soldiers held a joint memorial service for their ancestors, and Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Jong-hwan visited the unit to deliver President Roh’s message that said, “I’m convinced that the Zaitoon Unit will successfully complete its mission.” Some soldiers gave out Korean rice cakes called songpyeons to the local residents.
