Woori Bank Joins Playoffs in Fourth Place

Woori Bank has Samsung Life as its opponent for the 4-team playoffs.

Woori Bank was defeated by Shinsegae with a score of 70-89 in the 2004 Women’s Pro Basketball Winter League held at Chuncheon on April 6. Consequently, Woori Bank, which is seeking its third consecutive year of winning the championship, marked a record of 10 wins and 10 losses and advanced into the post season in fourth place in the regular season. So Woori Bank will contend with first place Samsung Life for the Champion Series and second place Kookmin Bank will take on third place Kumho Life.

Woori Bank seemed not to be performing their best because if they won, they would face Kookmin Bank which has been superior to Woori with three wins and one loss in the regular season. Woori Bank beat Samsung Life for two straight championship series. Also, Woori Bank was swept by Samsung Life with four losses this season, but they were close games such as a one-point game in the third and fourth games, making Woori feel confident.

Park Eun-jin leaded Shinsegae’s attack with 25 points and “Good-looking” Shin Hye-in scored 14 points in the support by her father and coach of Samsung Fire Men’s volleyball team, Shin Chi-yong. However Shinsegae fell to the bottom with three wins and 17 losses and failed to advance to playoffs for the first time in 10 seasons since it was formed.

Women’s pro league ended its regular league and will start the post-season on April 8.
