12,000 Teachers Will Increase This Year

13,432, fixed number of officials, will increase this year.

Government held State Council meeting on 26th, deliberating revised bills, on the regulation of fixed number of officials in public schools, from 8 departments and decided to increase 12,000 teachers and 92 general officials.

Besides this, government increased 638 officials for manpower enforcement in 5 departments such as National Public Prosecutor office, National Police office, including new foundation of National Human Rights Committee and scheduled to increase 702 persons in 14 departments by legislation. revision of law and inducting device and facilities, etc.

Education officials who would be recruited are 11,000 teachers such as ∆elementary 2,540 ∆ middle school 7,986 ∆ kindergarten 3,76 ∆ specific school 98 and 1,000 professors of National Universities.

Next year will also see an increase of 12,600 teachers because of increasing schools and classrooms in order to improve educational environment.

Lee Geun Sik, Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs, reported at a State Council meeting, “Since last 4 years, 85,000 officials have been deducted, however, real deduction number is 69,000 people from current administration, counting an increase of 16,000 officials, such as teachers and policemen in order to support administrative demand.”

However, Jin Nyeom, Minister of Economy pointed out at a meeting, saying, “increase of officials and organizations is violation of measures of reformation, therefore, it should occur only in indispensable parts through sufficient discussion.”
