The Agency for Technology and Standards, affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE), said Monday that it would enact the Korean Standard (KS) system in about 100 kinds of service businesses including tourism, finance, transportation and distribution from this year until 2003. This is the first time that a KS system has been introduced in the local service industry.
MOCIE will set standards for the Romanization of Korean words at tourist sites, hotels, subway stations and sport facilities, a standard form for hotel registration and a grading system for hotels, moving companies and door-to-door delivery services.
Next year, it will create 32 standards applicable to vehicle towing and repair companies and the warranty service sector of the appliance industry, and 60 standards for insurance policies in 2003.
