North Korea and the Philippines to Form Diplomatic Ties

Officials of the Filipino Foreign Ministry announced Friday that it will sign a treaty of amity with North Korea July 12.

Officials explained that Cho In-Chul, North Korean Ambassador to Thailand, plans to visit Manila on Sunday to work out the final details of the treaty before signing the agreement.

Diplomatic sources noted that by establishing diplomatic ties with the Philippines, North Korea is now eligible to participate in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) to be held in Bangkok at the end of this month.
