Jibokjae Hall of Gyeongbok Palace, which used to be the study of King Gojong during the Korean Empire, will reopen as a small public library.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced that the opening ceremony will be held Wednesday, featuring a talk concert. The original building will be completely preserved, while the interior will be equipped with books and reading stands. Such a plan is to let the public access the historical building more easily and to pass down its historical meaning.

The ministry plans to put more than 1,000 books on history, culture, and figures of the Joseon Dynasty, as well as a facsimile edition of historical materials of the royal palace. The facsimile edition is expected to let the public learn and experience the historical meaning of the royal library.

Around 230 Korean literature translations (English, Chinese, Japanese editions) will be also part of the library.
