South Korean President Moon Jae-in will make a five-day visit to New York staring from Sunday, when the Chuseok holidays start, on the occasion of the United Nations General Assembly and the South Korea-U.S. summit. Moon will also deliver a speech on inter-Korean economic cooperation at an event hosted by organizations including the Council on Foreign Relations.
The presidential office Cheong Wa Dae announced Friday that President Moon will have a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday (local time), and make a speech at the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday. President Moon will share the results of the recent inter-Korean summit in detail with his U.S. counterpart, and have in-depth discussions on cooperative ways to resolve the stalled U.S.-North Korea talks as well as create a virtuous circle of making progress in the inter-Korean and U.S.-North Korea relations, said Nam Gwan-pyo, second deputy director of Cheong Wa Dae’s National Security Office. On the occasion of the upcoming South Korea-U.S. summit, the two leaders stand to sign a revised KORUS Free Trade Agreement.
Hopes are high that the two heads of state will discuss and propose practical ways to cooperate, said a Cheong Wa Dae official. It is implied that some announcements can made regarding a second U.S.-North Korea summit and a war-ending declaration to find a solution to denuclearization negotiations.
