President Moon Jae-in on Tuesday called for active communication with businesses for the sake of job creation and regulatory reform. This is in a line with his sudden cancellation of the regulatory reform review meeting Last Tuesday at the last minute due to lack of preparations. Critics say his remark suggests a shift in policy direction to put an emphasis on collaboration with large corporates, which was considered a target of reform.
According to Cheong Wa Dae on Tuesday, President Moon recently said in a meeting that it is important for Cheong Wa Dae and the government to communicate with businesses and help resolve their difficulties by actively communicating with them. He told his aides to do so by actively visiting business sites.
What President Moon meant by communicating with businesses was to listen to the voices of businesses, which make investment in the eight pioneering industries, and help them with their requests for easing regulations. “President Moon reiterated his call to listen to the difficulties businesses are experiencing and help them with their requests right away,” Cheong Wa Dae official said. “He called for the government and businesses to work hard to create jobs.”
Following the president’s order, presidential aides, including policy chief Jang Ha-sung and senior secretary for economic affairs Yoon Jong-won have made appointments to visit businesses. It is likely that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon, who has been meeting with major conglomerates starting from LG Group in December last year, will visit more businesses to listen to their difficulties.
