Mark Wilson (photo) won the PGA Tour`s Sony Open in Hawaii Sunday after a 36 hole-marathon.
The 37-year-old shot a five-under in the third round and three-under in the fourth to finish at 16-under 264 at the par 70 Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Since the first round was delayed by heavy rain, the third and fourth rounds were played on the last day.
Wilson shot a 5-under 65 to take the lead in the third round and shot two-under par the first half of the fourth. He faced a challenge on the 17th (par 3) when he found the bunker with his tee shot when Tim Clark (South Africa) was trailing him by one stroke.
Wilson had his second shot four meters away from the hole but sank a par putt and birdied the 18th to win. He played the final 36 holes without a bogey.
Clark and Steve Marino (U.S.) came in second at 14-under 266.
Among ethnic Korean golfers, K.J. Choi (SK Telecom), Kim Bio (Nexon) and Kang Sung-hoon (Shinhan Financial Group) did not make the cut, while Anthony Kim (Nike Golf) tied for 13th (9-under 271) and Kevin Na (Titleist) was 20th (8-under 272).
