World No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland, who has been showing signs of slump this season, was defeated again.
Federer floundered Friday in the quarter-final of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, against world No. 6 Andy Roddick 1-2 (6-7, 6-4, 3-6).
With no win and no advance to the finals in recent four tournaments this season, Federer is facing speculation that his slump may continue longer. In particular, he had continued his 11th winning streak against Roddick up till now, except one defeat in 2003.
Roddick, who scored 17 service aces, said, I am pleased that no one can beat me 12 consecutive times. He will play against world No. 4 Nicolai Davydenko of Russia for the final.
Serena Williams of the United States, last years champion and world No. 8, cruised for the womens final, defeating world No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 2-1 (3-6, 7-5, 6-3) with a come-from-behind victory.
