Jeong Confesses Another Murder

Jeong, 39, who is under police custody for kidnapping and murdering two elementary school students in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, admitted that he also murdered a 40-something woman who went missing in Gunpo in 2004.

Including Lee Hye-jin and Wu Ye-seul, the two elementary school students, there are now three victims in total of Jeong’s crime. Police has decided to re-investigate the serial disappearance of women in the southern part of Gyeonggi Province, considering that there is high probability Jeong has committed other crimes.

▽ Sexual Harassment in Hallucinations

According to the police, Jeong drank two bottles of soju and inhaled bond around 4 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2007.

He left home to buy a cigarette pack at around 6 p.m. and on his way back home, he came across Hye-jin and Ye-seul. He threatened the two children, kidnapped them to his house and sexually harassed them for about an hour after unclothing them.

Later when he came to himself, he choked the two children to death covering their mouths, lest people should find out about what he did to the girls. He chopped the corpses in his bathroom, loaded them on a rented car and threw them away in a hill near Homaesil, Suwon and in Gunja Stream, Siheung.

Jeong confessed these details of his crime and reconstructed them during the on-the-spot inspection on March 22. The inspection lasted around four hours and was open to the victims’ families and neighbors.

Lee Hye-jin’s mother, 42, cried out sorrowfully, saying, “Please let me at least see his face.”

▽ Murder of Woman in Gunpo

Jeong also confessed that he murdered A (then aged 44), who disappeared in Geumjeong-dong, Gunpo, in July 2004.

He said he called A, a date mate employed by an adult phone room, and told her to come to a motel in Geumjeong-dong. He then murdered her and threw the corpse into the sea from a bridge in Wolgot.

Right before A’s disappearance, Jeong talked with her four times through mobile phone. At that time, the police picked Jeong as a strong suspect and investigated him, but released him as they were unable to find any evidence other than his fake reaction to the lie detector.

“Jeong confessed that he murdered A, but could not identify the exact place of murder. We’re probing into the motivation and method,” said the police.

▽ Re-investigation of Disappearance Cases

Police has decided to restart the investigation on the five cases of the disappearance of women that occurred between December 2006 to January 2007 in Gunpo, Hwaseong and Suwon.

Investigators are paying special attention to the case of Kim, a 39-year-old Korean Chinese whose disappearance was discovered late. Kim left a karaoke in Gwanyang-dong, Anyang, with a man in his thirties at around 6:10 p.m. on Jan. 6 last year.

Kim’s telephone was turned off in Mado-myeon, Hwaseong, and Kim has been missing since. The karaoke is four kilometers away from Jeong’s house, which takes 10 minutes by car.

At the moment of Kim’s disappearance, Jeong was not at work as a substitute driver. Jeong has no telephone record at that time, according to the police.

“Regarding the other four cases beside the disappearance of the date mate at the karaoke in Anyang, we think Jeong is not likely to have been involved because his alibis were proved, but since Jeong has confessed that he murdered A, we’ll investigate the cases again,” police said.
