Good-Bye, Mr. LaPorte

A ceremony for the departing commander of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces and the new commander of the U.S. Forces in Korea was held at the Yongsan Garrison in Seoul yesterday. Gen. Burwell Bell, the newly appointed commander, Joint Chiefs member Gen. Peter Pace, Sgt. Maj. Barry Wheeler, and former commander Leon J. LaPorte return a salute. LaPorte was discharged from the army the same day, ending his 38-year career in the military.
