Police are investigating an apartment complex located in Garak-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul after finding many cats with nails stuck in their heads or backs there.

The Suseo police station said yesterday that the owner of a cat reported finding a large nail stuck into the cat’s back at the end of August. The case is currently under investigation.

According to police, Jeong, who lives in the Siyeong Apartments, Garak-dong, lost his cat a few days ago and found the cat crouching in a backyard, bleeding, with a large nail stuck in her back.

Before this, a TV program broadcasted a scene of people rescuing a cat with a 10cm-long nail stuck in her body at the end of last July, and on September 29, broadcasted a similar case again in which a nail was stuck in a cat’s stomach.

A police source said, “Someone seems to be impaling cats with large nails by using nail guns used in construction sites,” adding, “Criminals will be punished in accordance with the Animal Protection Act and, if the cats belong to people, they can be additionally accused of damaging others’ property.”
