Teacher Who Had Affair With Her 14-Year-Old Student Creates Another Stir in U.S.

On June 16, Debra Lafave (24, left), a former U.S. teacher indicted on a charge of having sexual relations with her 14-year-old student, showed up with her lawyer to the Hillsborough County Court, Florida. Lafave might face a maximum 30 years in jail for having an affair with her student moving to two different counties last year. The Lafave case is being enthusiastically covered by the U.S. media following the case of Mary Kay Letourneau, 43, a former teacher who served seven and a half years in jail for having sex with her sixth-grade student in 1996. Letourneau recently married the student who is now a legal adult.
