A teaching staff evaluation system, where fellow teachers and parents of students participate in evaluating a teachers lessons, will be fully introduced in 2007.
However, the results of the system will not be reflected in promotion decisions. They will only be given to individuals to use as a reference. Therefore, the system appears to be of little use, and there is a strong sentiment of opposition to the system from the teaching staff, which is making the start of the system not easy.
The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MOE) announced yesterday its teaching staff evaluation system improvement method containing the above, and will open a public listening session today in a teaching staff request review committee meeting in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, to collect opinions from various industries.
The MOE will test the new system on 66 elementary to high schools across the nation until next February and, after improving on any problems found, plans to fully introduce the system in 2007.
