Fires in Gangwon Province Extinguished Naksan Temple in Ruins

The devastated view of Naksansa temple after fires broke out in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon Province. The police and soldiers started restoration work and clearing debris, beginning in the morning of April 6. Wildfires occurred in Yangyang and Goseong area, Gangwon Province, on Arbor Day and were completely extinguished in the afternoon of April 6. The fire, with no clear cause so far, burned 400 hectare of forests and damaged 246 buildings, including 160 houses. In addition, 340 people from 134 households fell victim to the fires. The government is positively considering a plan to support the affected by declaring the areas as disaster ones.
