Lee Nak-Yeon, spokesperson of the NMDP, stated regarding the arrest of Mr. Lee Suk-Hee, ex-deputy director of the National Tax Office, in the U.S on the 16th, "Not only the suspicion that ex-deputy director Lee raised funds for the major election in 1997 for candidate Lee Hoi Chang of Grand National Party, his senior in high school, but also the facts of the `tax scandal` must be exposed. Judicial authorities should arraign Mr. Lee as soon as possible."
Nam Gyeong-Pil, spokesperson of the Grand National Party, said, "The GNP expects him (Mr. Lee, ex-deputy director) to be treated according to the law and be asked to provide information on questions about the tax scandal."
Lee Jae-Oh, floor leader of the GNP stated, "The truth must be told, however, if the ruling party uses this issues as a political tactic in light of the upcoming elections or as a political offensive. The GNP will not tolerate such measures."
