A 4-seater 172R Cessna light aircraft, flown by a 15 year-old high school student, crashed into the 42-story Bank of America building on the 5th, at around 5 p.m. (local time) in Tampa, Florida.
Coast Guard officials and White House spokesman Scott McClellan announced that they discount the possibility that this incident was an act of terrorism.
Although the plane collided onto the outside wall of the 28th floor, no fire was reported and, as it was an inactive weekend afternoon, there was nobody else injured inside the building as well as on the ground.
However, images of the impact televised on CNN reminded Americans of the chilling memory of the `9.11 attack`.
The pilot, Charles J. Bishop (Palm Harbor East Lake High.), had trained at the National Aviation Academy for 2 years, but it appeared he was a year too young for an independent flight.
Officials reported that the boy was living in Palm Harbor with his mother, and was an ordinary student who never caused trouble.
While he was supposedly preparing for the flight, Bishop took off from the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport without authorization and headed towards the Bank of America. It is still not clear whether the incident was intentional or accidental.
Also on the same day, there were other plane crashes that took away 8 lives in 3 various places including California, Colorado, and Puerto Rico, but none of them have any connection to terrorism.
