More Rains Till Tomorrow

Following the concentrated showers in the central area up to 400 mm for three days, more rains over the nation is forecasted on Aug 1.

The Seoul, Kyonggi, Chungnam, central Kangwon areas are under the torrential rain alert and the Chungbuk area is under the torrential rain warning at 4:00 p.m. July 31. The warning is to be expanded to the east Kangwon, Pusan, Kyongnam, Cholla, and Cheju areas.

The precipitation by 4:00 p.m. July 31 since 29 recorded 311.3 mm in Cheolwon, 271.2 mm in Suwon, 269.3 mm in Seoul, 264.7 mm in Tongducheon, and 220.8 mm in Seosan. Cheolwon had 140.0 mm rainfalls in July 31 alone.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted, ``the seasonal rain front will stay in the central area moving back and forth and, in the southern area, the humid vapors from the North Pacific high pressure will be added to the border of the rain front. The rainfalls between 31st and Aug 1st will be 30-100 mm (max. 150 mm) in Seoul, Kyonggi, and the west Kangwon area, 20-80 mm (max. 120 mm) in the Chungcheong and the east Kangwon area, and 10-60 mm (max. 80 mm) in the southern area and Cheju.``

The 8th typhoon, `Doraji (balloon flower),` which was heading north, landed on the southwest coast of China on July 31 and turned into the tropical cyclone. However, a KMA official said that ``the vapors of the tropical cyclone are expected to inflow into the Korean peninsula through the trough in the south of Korea, continuing the rainfalls until Aug. 2.`` Meanwhile, the Han River Flood Control Office announced the flood warning at 4:00 p.m. July 31 because of the rising water-level at the checking point in the north of the Beeryong Bridge by the rainfalls in the Imjin River area.
