MDP member calls for constitutional change on elections

Ruling Millennium Democratic Party member Rhee In-Je said Tuesday that the constitution should be changed to make the terms of office of both the president and National Assembly members four years and allow for the holding of elections for president, National Assembly representatives, mayors, provincial governors and local councilmen at the same time. The ruling party supreme council member made the remarks in a meeting of his supporters at the COEX Convention Hall in Samsung-dong, southern Seoul. The crowd of over 13,000 at the event seemed to herald the launch of Rhee`s entry in the next presidential race. He also suggested that the president be allowed to serve more than one term and that a vice presidency be created to help overcome regionalism.
