Donga Media Center wins award

Donga Media Center has been awarded the 2000 Award of Excellence in Cultural Architecture.

The Korea Institute of Registered Architects held the award ceremony on Wednesday at its headquarters in the Seocho area of Seoul and presented the Donga Media Center with the Award of Excellence in Cultural Architecture. Heerim Architects and Engineering responsible for designing the Donga Media Center and Daewoo Inc., the builder, each received The Ministry of Construction and Transportation Award.

Donga Media Center, which consists of five underground basement floors and 21 above-ground levels, was judged to be "a structure amid an area full of structures with long historical heritage such as the Doksu Palace, the Sejong Cultural Center and the Il-min Cultural Center, and inclined toward keeping the racial, democratic and cultural heritage of the Korean people alive while serving as the headquarters for the Dong-a Ilbo the past 100 years, and so successfully contributing to the greater image of Dong-a Ilbo."
