Park Chan-Ho, 27, of the Los Angeles Dodgers pitched brilliantly against San Diego Padres and earned his season-high 17th victory, eclipsing the previous high of 16 wins by an Asian pitcher in the American Major Leagues. Park and the Detroit Tigers¡¯ Hideo Nomo of Japan had shared the record so far.

Park scattered two hits and walked five, shutting out the Padres for eight innings for the win at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Park also improved his ERA to 3.40.

Park, Korea's first Major League pitcher, was expected to win the season's first shutout victory, but he was relieved by Jeffery Shaw in the ninth at 1-0 as he already pitched 124.

Seventeen wins are the largest for Park in a season since he debuted in the Major League and broke the previous record for Asian pitchers Nomo established in 1996 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In particular, Park struck out 13 Padres batters for the total 204 of the season, ranked third in the category in the National League.
