N. Korea to get ambulances from South

With the smooth operation of the Aid for North Korean Children by this vernacular Dong-A Ilbo and the Korea Welfare Foundation (KWF), a new relief project for the famine-stricken North Koreans, a movement to send ambulances to North Korea, is in the works.

The Society of People from the Five Provinces in North Korea has in association with the Unification Information Newspaper decided to send a fleet of ambulances to the famine-stricken people in their hometowns. The decision was in a response to the request for the ambulances at various provincial children`s hospitals made by the Chosun Medical Association to KWF.

"The food aid for the North Korean children that began August. 15 placed food at the table for 12,000 children twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays," a source at the foundation revealed.

This newspaper and KWF plan to build a bakery in Pyongyang at the earliest and expand the scope of the food aid. The budget necessary to place one 150-gram piece of bread in accordance to the recommended daily allowance set by the World Health Organization is about 5,000 won a month. In addition, a mid-sized trading company that requested anonymity has donated 100 blankets for the hospitals in North Korea. Information-communication companies www.hosanna.net and www.logoscit.com have pledged their support for aid to North Korean children.
