The Ministry of Forestry revealed on the 23rd that 13,460 ha of farmland in Kyunggi, Chungchong and North Cholla provinces were flooded on the 22nd due to heavy rains. The Hwasung, Kyunggi region incurred the most damage, with 5,354 ha submerged. In Ichon,

Kyunggi and Umsung, North Chungchong province, more than 11 ha of farmland were swept away and 22 maintenance facilities sustained partial damage. In addition, 35,000 chickens were found to have drowned in the Kyunggi, Yongin and Pyongtaek areas. 594 ha of greenhouses were also damaged from the rains.

According to the Ministry, 85% of the flooded farmland (11,455 ha) was restored by the afternoon of the 23rd and an additional 2,000 ha are expected to dry out soon.

The Ministry reported that there is little possibility of further devastation from disease and insects despite temperatures currently standing at 25~29 degrees Celsius. However, flooded farms need to be dried out, and measures to prevent diseases and insect damage should be implemented immediately to minimize losses to the harvest volume.
