Na Kyong-min, a high school senior at Kwanjo High School in Taejon grabbed the prestigious Presidential Award at the 22nd National Students` Science Invention Contest for his invention, the "easy-to-use cellular recharger." Taking the Prime Minister`s Award is Kang Jae-Haw, a high school senior at Yongju High School in Kohung, South Cholla Province for his work, "oil recollecting equipment for recycling." The contest, hosted in conjunction by the Donga Ilbo and the Ministry of Science and Technology, saw these and some 99,550 works submitted in five sectors including living science, recycling of resources, stationery and science toys. Only 294 works made it to the finals. The number of total works submitted has increased by some 13,000 from last year. The event was sponsored by Yakult Co., and supervised by the National Central Science Hall.
