The life of Diego Maradona, a soccer genius, was like a rollercoaster. He played for the Argentinean national team in four World Cups from 1982 to 1994. He contributed significantly to the team’s victory in the 1986 Mexico World Cup. He was popular for his skills and selected as the most valuable player. However, he was given a suspended jail sentence for shooting journalists with an air gun and could have been dead due to cocaine addiction. He got very popular when he joined the 2010 South African World Cup as the national team’s coach.

The former soccer player addicted to drugs often visited Cuba for treatment. He might have met Che Guevara, the revolutionary hero. He had a tattoo of Che Guevara on his right arm and Fidel Castro on his left leg. Michael Tyson, who was once an undisputed heavyweight champion, had Guevara’s face on the left side of his belly. The two bad boys in the soccer field and the ring might have thought that Guevara represents their image.

Guevara, who was a physician, successfully led the Cuban Revolution with Castro in 1959. After seeing Castro have a bureaucratic mind following the revolution, the free soul left to Congo and Bolivia to continue his guerrilla struggles. Eventually, he died in an ambush attack by the government in a jungle of Bolivia at 39. His grandson Canek Sanchez Guevara criticized that the Castro brothers were dictators, saying, “I’ll never recognize Cuba’s today.” The revolutionary hero’s grandson, who was a writer and performer, died in Mexico last year.

The Cuban people wholeheartedly welcome U.S. President Barack Obama who comes to Cuba in 88 years. Even an employee of the Cuban foreign ministry said, “If Guevara were to be alive, he would have welcomed him (Obama).” Guevara is now beloved by many young people around the world in the form of tattoos of celebrities and as an image on T-shirts and cups as the brainchild of capitalist products. Even a female model who falsely claimed that she is his granddaughter appeared in a seminude advertisement. What else do we need to say?
