At Geumsung-myeon in Euiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province, a pair of gold earrings of the Shilla Dynasty in the Three States era, around 1,500 years from now, was excavated. The Cultural Heritage Association said Monday, "Among the ancient tomb 45 at Daeri-ri in Euiseong being searched and excavated by the Seonglim Cultural Property Research Center, gold earrings, two pairs of belts, two pieces of dishes with short legs, one long pot with thick neck and 10 horse-riding accessories were excavated," adding, "The earrings are decorated with small gold particles up to the loop, the pattern of which is unprecedented except for that excavated in 1973 at Cheonmachong Ancient Tomb in Gyeongju."
According to the Cultural Heritage Association, the old tomb that was discovered in the mid-1990s with tumulus having been damaged had two wooden coffins that contained a dead body and burial accessories aligned side by side. The association assumed it to be a large burial mound tomb where royal family was buried. The style where gold particles are attached and gold plate is bent to decorate the earring is known to have been popular for a short period of time in the Shilla Dynasty in mid-6th century when Cheonmachong Ancient Tomb was made.
