Samsung Electronics will launch Wednesday "Samsung Gear S," a wearable device that enables phone calls even when away from smartphones.

Gear S can be used with a smartphone via Bluetooth, but also can directly make/receive phone calls, and send/receive text messages and email from the wrist as it supports 3G and WiFi connectivity by using its own USIM chip. The 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display has an onscreen keyboard allowing users to type text, while a user can also speak to input text through S Voice. It also features a built-in GPA and multi sensors -- acceleration sensor, pulse sensor, atmospheric pressure sensor and ultraviolet ray sensor -- that display heart rate, speed and moving route while exercising.

It also supports Nike+ Running, Nike`s healthcare application previously used in only Apple`s products. Users can share exercise distance and time with friends through this. Samsung Gear S comes in two colors, blue black and white, and will be released through SK Telecom and KT at 297,000 won (275.5 U.S. dollars).
