Samsung has been evaluated to be a brand whose value showed the biggest increase over the last one year.

U.S. business magazine Forbes reported Wednesday (local time) that Samsung ranked ninth on the list of "The World’s Most Valuable Brands," valuing its brand at 29.5 billion U.S. dollars. The evaluated worth was up 53 percent from last year, the biggest rise among around 200 companies surveyed. Samsung`s brand value jumped from 33rd in 2011 to 12th last year and ninth this year.

"Sales for Samsung’s Galaxy S4 smartphone have been on fire and the company also benefits from its market leading position with memory chips," Forbes said. In the third quarter of this year, Samsung smartphone shipments totaled 81.2 million dollars. The company`s 31.4 percent market share is "larger than the next four brands combined," Forbes reported.

The magazine also attributed Samsung`s successful brand management to its effective and differentiated sports marketing. "Samsung Electronics has been an Olympic sponsor since the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. It uses global sports stars such as track and field`s Usain Bolt and figure skater Kim Yu-na in its advertising," Forbes reported. "Samsung’s most high profile sports team deal is its 24 million dollars a year jersey sponsorship of European soccer champion Chelsea."

For the most valuable brand in the world, Apple was named at 104.3 dollars, followed by Microsoft at 56.7 billion dollars and Coca-Cola at 54.9 billion dollars. Another South Korean company on the list is Hyundai Motor Co., which ranked 81st with its brand valued at 6.5 billion dollars.
