N. Korea`s new powers that be

The North Korea Central News Agency carried Sunday footage of Jang Song Taek (left), vice chairman of the North’s Central Military Commission clad in military uniform with a full-general badge, paying his respects to the late Kim Jong Il, his brother-in-law, at Kumsusan Memorial Palace in Pyongyang Sunday. North Korea is believed to have hurriedly accorded Jang the title of full general to consolidate its leadership system centered on the military following Kim’s death. This is the first time for Jang to be seen wearing a military uniform. Successor Kim Jong Un in civilian apparel has elevated his profile through the images of him accompanied by military generals. To Jang’s right is Ri Yong Ho, general chief of staff of the North Korean People’s Army and Kim Jong Un’s closest confidant.
