GNP Suggests Cheong Wa Dae Veto Special Prosecution Bill

On Thursday, Chairman Kang Jae-sup of the Grand National Party appeared on a radio program and said, “It is low-quality politics to pick on the elected candidate using a special prosecution bill. It’d be good if President Roh vetoes the bill for the sake of Korea’s national integrity at the end of his term.”

“It will be a good deed to make the transition smooth so that a political dispute will be eliminated, making it easier for the new administration to realize the value chosen by the people. I’d like to formally ask President Roh to make a just decision,” he added.

Regarding the proposal, in a regular briefing, Cheong Wa Dae spokesman Cheon Ho-seon hinted toward the approval of the special prosecution bill, saying, "Nothing new has been discussed about that part.”

Accordingly, the government is expected to present the proclamation of the BBK special prosecution bill and pass it at the cabinet council meeting scheduled for December 26.
