Fourteen Own Shares Valued Over KRW1 Trillion

Thanks to the local bourse`s bullish run this year, the number of individuals whose total stock values exceed one trillion won has increased to 14, up from eight early this year. Chung Mong-joon, the largest shareholder of Hyundai Heavy Industries, was found to be the richest stockholder in the country, according to a recent survey.

Chabul.Com, an online website detailing with the nation`s family-run conglomerates, claimed on Wednesday, 14 major shareholders of Kospi and Kosdaq held stakes valued at over one trillion won, according to Tuesday`s market price. And 170 people own stocks valued at more than 100 billion won.

Chung, who owns 10.80 percent of Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shares, was the country`s biggest stockholder with his combined stock value reaching 3.9285 trillion won. Chung has been topping the chart since May this year when the price of shares for Hyundai Heavy Industries rose sharply.

Chung Mong-joon’s older brother, Chung Mong-koo, chairman of Hyundai-Kia Motors Group, came in second with a combined stock value of 3.0299 trillion won. Lee Myung-hee, chairwoman of Shinsegae, came third with stock valued at 2.0547 trillion won.

The fourth and fifth places went to two brothers of Lotte Group. The shares of Shin Dong-bin, vice chairman of Lotte Group, were worth 1.9602 trillion won, while those of his older brother Shin Dong-ju, vice president of Lotte Japan, were valued at 1.8878 trillion won.

Meanwhile, Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee came in fourth as his share value plunged to 1.65 trillion won due to a decrease in his stock values.

LG Group chairman Koo Bon-moo (1.359 trillion won), Hanwha Group chairman Kim Seung-yeon (1.330 trillion won), GS Group Chairman Huh Chang-soo (1.3098 trillion won), and Pacific Cooperation CEO Seo Gyeong-bae (1.2271 trillion won) followed.

In the KOSDAQ market, Taewoong CEO Huh Yong-do and NHN CSO Lee Hae-jin came first and second with share values standing at 770.4 billion won and 608.8 billion won, respectively.
