Top-ranked Swiss tennis pro Roger Federer won his 50th tournament and reached another measure of tennis greatness yesterday, beating James Blake, ranked 8th in the world, 6-1, 6-4 in the Western and Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati.

At age 26 (and 11 days), he became the fifth-youngest player to reach 50 tournament wins since his first win in Milan, Italy in 2001.

Federer, the No. 7 male tennis player in the world with 50 tournament wins, trails Jimmy Connors’ 109. Out of his 50 wins, 11 were majors and 14 were from the Masters Series. The total prize money from those wins amounted to 2.45 million dollars.

After winning $400,000 at the Cincinnati Masters yesterday, Federer’s current season’s earnings have reached 4.66 million dollars.
