Figure skating queen Kim Yu-na (17, Gunpo Suri High School) has changed the music she skates to. Kim, who performed to the melody of the violin concerto “The Lark Ascending” last season, is preparing a new performance to the music of the worldwide hit musical “Miss Saigon” and the opera “Die Fledermaus.”

Kim’s agency, IB Sports, revealed on June 28, “Kim Yu-na has selected the music and choreography for her performance in the free skating and short programs.” The piece that Kim selected for her free skating program is from a musical set in the Vietnam War, “Miss Saigon”; for her short program, she chose Johann Strauss’ overture from the opera “Die Fledermaus.”

Kim Yu-na, who started an eight-week intensive training course this week, said, “In the case of Miss Saigon, I am concentrating on my expressiveness and motions during my performance because the piece has many powerful and grand moments. The overture of “Die Fledermaus” is bright and cheerful music, so that will let me present a different kind of performance.”‘

Coach David Wilson, who is in charge of Kim’s choreography and music selection, showed confidence when he said, “We are creating an amazing performance by blending music from ‘Miss Saigon,’ such as the song ‘Sun and Moon’ and the overture. It is more beautiful and graceful than ‘The Lark Ascending.’”
