Police Raid Video Gambling Licensers

The special investigation team of the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office, the head of the drug and organized crime investigation department, conducted a seizure and search on Wednesday of the Korea Media Rating Board, government organization in charge of the rating process, for illegal arcade machines including “The Sea Story” and the Korea Game Development & Promotion Institute, organization for designating gift certificate issuers.

The prosecution earlier in the day around 10:30 a.m. sent about 50 investigators to the two organizations to confiscate several documents related to the approval of the machines and licensing of the certificate issuance, official correspondence with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and other certificate issuers, and financial records.

The prosecution is planning to conduct a raid on offices of other 19 certificate issuers soon.

In addition, the prosecution asked for the court to issue an injunction to secure the remaining 50 billion won in the form of the deposit and property of the net profit worth 90 billion won Aone-Biz has made by making and selling The Sea Story machines since last December.

“Part of the profit seems to have been spent in acquiring Woojyun Systec and running the business.” said one official of the prosecution. “To find out where the money was spent, we’re going after the fund.”

Meanwhile, the National Tax Service has launched its probe into gift certificate issuers and distributors and manufacturers and distributors of illegal adult game machines.
