Korean DMB Could Take World by Storm

Posted August. 19, 2006 03:02,

The Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) technology, commercialized successfully by Korean companies, is highly likely to make inroads into the world market.

On August 16, the ministry of information and communication stated that Seoul will hold a “Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) Forum” aimed at spreading the European mode digital radio technology for two days beginning on October 30.

In addition, the title of the forum will be modified to the “World DMB Forum.”

The ministry explained that the new title, proposed initially by the Korean government, was in commemoration of the successful adoption of the DMB technology as an alternative to DAB on the motion of the members.

Lee Jeong-gu, the head of the satellite broadcasting division of the ministry, said, “The members are so interested in our DMB technology,” adding, “In the near future, penetration of the Korean DMB into the world market will definitely accelerate.”

The World DAB Forum has 43 member countries including Britain, France and Germany as well as 120 broadcasting companies and related institutes.
