Japanese Firefighters

“This is how you maintain your balance.” At the New Year’s event of the “Japanese Association for the Preservation of Traditional Fire Fighting Skills” in Tokyo Friday, firefighters wearing Edo period uniforms are balancing themselves on a bamboo rescue ladder like stunt men. Firefighters, members of the association, and about 2,600 volunteers participate in this early January event every year.
