Min Kyung-chan, who is related by marriage to the president, has raised a staggering 65.3 billion won over two months without making contracts or agreements, which has triggered suspicion that it is not just a financial incident, but a possible major scandal related to the relatives of president. However, the Financial Supervisory Service and the special investigative unit of the National Police Agency, which have contacted Min either directly or indirectly, have raised the suspicion level while saying “we cannot find anything illegal” and addressing the importance of investor protection.

Yesterday, the special investigative unit of the National Police Agency brought Min to a police station for interrogation and investigated his office and hospital, which seems to be too little too late. The police should reveal everything related to the “Dokkaebi Fund” initiated by Min, and detailed information about investors so that suspicions regarding this event can subside completely. Min said that “when it became widely known that I am related by marriage to the president, the amount of raised money increased so much that it even astounded myself” and “investors are composed of those who do not regret investing even if they lose all money they invested,” which makes us wonder what the investors’ real intentions behind the investments were.

A thorough investigation should be made into other suspicions running around us. Otherwise many groundless rumors will hover over the upcoming general election, especially together with political strategies spotlighted.

It is also questionable how the presidential secretary for audit and inspection, who is supposed to monitor and investigate any corruption related to the president’s relatives, expressed a resignation without notice. Accordingly, it should be revealed when they obtained materials regarding the “Min Kyung-chan Fund,” how they dealt with it, and why the special investigative unit of the National Police Agency has swept the accusations under the carpet even after banning Min from departure on last Saturday.

The “Min Kyung-chan Fund” scandal is a critical issue directly related to the current government’s morality. Suspicions should not be allowed to increase any further, and prompt action on it should be taken.
