The Chinese President Jiang Zemin and the Russian President Vladimir Putin had a summit in Beijing on the 2nd and insisted that North Korea should give up the nuclear development plan, and North Korea and America should reopen a fair and constructive talk through the observance of the Geneva Basic Agreement.
The two leaders also said that in order to ease the tension in the Korean Peninsular, talks and cooperation between South and North Korea should be continued, and they support the development of North Korea-Japan relationship. Those were included at the Joint Declaration, which they signed after an hour of summit talk at the Great People`s Hall.
In addition to this, the two leaders agreed that the role of the UN in international society must be strengthened and the multipolar international order must be achieved; therefore, they showed their opinions of reforming the international order, which had been led by America, and objection to the one-sided attack against Iraq.
The President Putin also had a talk with the Secretary General of the Chinese Communist Party, Fu Jintao and discussed the way of strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two countries. The President Putin will give lecture at the Beijing University on the 3rd and leave for India.
His visit to China was done by the invitation of the President Jiang, who had visited Moscow last July, and it was his second visit since the inauguration.
