In Columbia, which is the biggest drug base in South America and has strong rebel forces, there was a massive explosive terror incident on the 7th, so dark shadow was casting on the launching of the new Albaro Uribe Belles Administration.

The Columbian security official announced that day that explosives, which was presumed to be fired by the left wing rebels, were exploded near the National Assembly Building where the Inauguration of the President Uribe was being held and killed at least 15 people and injured 40 people. There was an explosion also near the Presidential Palace.

The security official said that out of 3 explosives, which were made like rockets using gas cylinders, 2 seemed to aim the Government Building and the other seemed to aim the Presidential Palace.

Although which organization out of rebel forces in Columbia led this terror was not confirmed yet; however, it is predicted that the biggest rebel force in Columbia, FARC, which strengthened terror activities before the Inauguration, is presumed to do that.

The President Uribe declared a war against the rebels at the Inauguration, “In order to revitalize Columbia, which suffers from the civil war that continues for 38 years and economical difficulties, we must wipe out the rebels.”

He also said that he would operate a general election to carry out reformation to unify the Senate and House and cut the number of congressmen in half as a way of reducing the budget.

The President Uribe ran for Presidential Election held on May 26th as an independent candidate, and was elected with 52% of total votes at the 1st voting.

He graduated from Harvard and Oxford and worked as a Senate and the Governor of Antiokia, and he concentrated on wiping out the left wing rebel forces. His father was kidnapped and shot to death in 1983, and he was also threatened to be assassinated 6 times during his campaign.

In Columbia, the FARC and the right wing warlords are opposed to each other; therefore some 3,500 people are killed every year. What is worse, 64% of the total population is living under the poverty level, and the unemployment rate in big cities is above 17%; therefore, the economy is in break down situation.
