Samsung Electronics announced on the 27th that it succeeded in developing `Double Data Rate-II D-Ram` for the first time in the world.

This product has twice as faster data-processing speed than the previous DDR, being named as `2nd-generation DDR memory chip`, which can process 41,000 Korean characters in 1 second with 512 megabytes of memory.

Samsung Electronics applied various new techniques like 0.12 micrometer (1 millionth of a meter) of super-microscopic process and low electricity movement of 1.8 volt to this product. Out of 47 patent applications, 8 have already been authorized in the U.S.

It, especially, has completed performance test with U.S.A.’s IBM.

Samsung Electronics plans for mass production of 512 MB DDR-II from the year’s end, and also for expanding DDR production by 50 per cent to lead the D-Ram market. Dataquest, research institution of the semiconductor market, predicted that DDR products will take up 40 per cent of the D-Ram market by this year and 66 per cent by next year.
